FAQ

  • Derci is a modern death care company focused on providing thoughtful, transparent, and environmentally conscious aquamation services. We exist to make an unfamiliar process feel understandable, respectful, and human.

  • Aquamation, also called alkaline hydrolysis or water cremation, is a gentle, dignified process that uses water, temperature, and an alkaline solution to return the body to its natural elements. It mirrors what occurs naturally in soil over time, but in a carefully controlled environment.

  • Aquamation does not use fire. Instead of combustion, it relies on water and chemistry, resulting in significantly lower carbon emissions and energy use. Many families choose aquamation because it aligns with environmental values and feels softer in spirit.

  • Yes. Aquamation uses far less energy than flame cremation and produces no airborne emissions. It is widely considered one of the most environmentally responsible disposition options available today.

  • Yes. Families receive a fine, white mineral ash similar in appearance to cremated remains, often slightly lighter in color. These remains can be kept, scattered, buried, or memorialized in the same ways.

  • Aquamation is legal in many states and continues to expand nationwide. Availability depends on local regulations and licensed providers. Derci works within all applicable laws and partners only with compliant facilities.

  • No. Derci believes families should never feel overwhelmed by technical details. We explain what matters in plain language and answer questions at whatever depth feels right for you.

  • Many faith leaders and spiritual communities support aquamation, especially those that emphasize stewardship of the earth and gentle return. Families are encouraged to consult their spiritual advisors, and Derci is happy to support those conversations.

  • The process itself typically takes several hours, followed by careful preparation of the remains. Timelines vary slightly based on location and coordination, which Derci manages on your behalf.

  • Costs are often comparable and vary by region. Derci is committed to transparent pricing with no surprises, and we explain all options clearly upfront.

  • This depends on the facility and local regulations. Derci can explain what is possible in your area and help you choose what feels most meaningful.

  • Families may choose urns, scattering, burial, or memorial options. Derci can assist with next steps or simply provide the remains for families to proceed in their own way.

  • Pacemakers do not require pre removal to prevent explosion risk as they do with flame cremation.

Implants remain intact. Pacemakers, defibrillators, artificial joints, and surgical hardware are not destroyed.

Precious metals can be recovered. Gold dental work and other valuable alloys are preserved rather than vaporized.

  • Derci coordinates the aquamation process, guides families through available options, and works closely with licensed operators to ensure care, dignity, and clarity at every step. We remove friction so families can focus on remembrance, not logistics.
